What is an Apostille and what's its purpose?
An Apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature of a public official on a document for use in another country. An Apostille certifies:
the authenticity of the signature of the public official who signed the document,
the capacity in which that public official acted, and
when appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp which the document bears, e.g. a notary public seal.
The Apostille does not validate the contents of the document.
How do I get a UK document legalised with an Apostille?
In the UK, you can get certain official UK documents ‘legalised’ by asking the Legalisation Office to confirm that the signature, stamp or seal is from a UK public official.
What it costs?
The standard service costs £30 per document, plus courier fees or postage.
How long it takes?
It can take up to 10 working days to process your documents using the standard service, plus courier or postage time. Call the Legalisation Office if your application is urgent.
